The Terry Fox Memorial Grant is awarded through the Foundation for Promotion of Cancer Research Grant-in-Aid program and is endowed by Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Chinzanso, Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Marunouchi and the Canadian Embassy through contributions from good-will participation fees and donations at ‘The 16th Terry Fox Run 2007’.

Terry Fox Run is an annual charity event race held in numerous regions across the world in commemoration of Canadian amputee runner Terry Fox.

Terry Fox lost his leg to osteogenic sarcoma when he was a teenager. While having treatment in the hospital, he was affected by the suffering in the cancer ward. He decided to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research. He called it the ‘Marathon of Hope’. Although he died from the progression of cancer to his lungs at age 22 in 1981, his heroic efforts and personal integrity continue to inspire people everywhere.
